The Writers’ Union of Armenia hosted their first International Poetry Festival in Yerevan within the frame of the Yerevan World Book Capital 2012. Over 50 distinguished poets from Armenia, Artsakh, Canada, Australia, the Middle East, and European and CIS countries participated in this festival. Presentations and discussions of translated books were held in Yerevan, Gyumri, Tsakhkadzor and Hrazdan, while literary meetings took place in the universities and schools of Yerevan. Among the honorary guests were the writers Alan Whitehorn, who has Armenian roots, and Marcella Polain. They have accomplished much in the area of global recognition of the Armenian Genocide, and during the conference held in the Ministry of Culture, the guests talked about the importance of the official recognition.
